The First Edition Book of Mormon, in its antique form, is an expensive collectible. But, a replica of this 1830 volume is available for sale for a modest investment. Some very interesting trivia is associated with this publication. History buffs and collectors alike are finding it to be very thought provoking.
It's not difficult to find a few of these historical books for sale on the Internet. With authenticity comes a very high price, indeed. Two originals have been offered for $69K and $98K in US currency. There are also less valuable ones for sale at under five hundred dollars, but not many.
The newest replica is called the 1830 Heritage Book of Mormon. This gives a nod to the long history and certainly family oriented religion. The purchase price is about thirty four dollars. Bound in an attractive brown leatherette cover, with gold imprinted letters, it is advertised as a way for today's Latter Day Saints to read as the earliest saints would have done.
When the first printing took place, it was in the print shop of E. B. Grandin in Palmyra, New York. There are actually two typefaces used in the original, prompting questions about why it is this way. One particularly curious historian, Royal Skousen, has written an abstract asking why part of this important book is printed in one and part in the other. Skousen was careful to write that the scribes delivered the original manuscript personally. Even with all due diligence, one sixth was set using the first scribed manuscript. Why were the remaining five sixth not?
For Latter Day Saints, the question of legitimate history is important. The religion is relatively new compared to others in the world. Being able to authenticate and collect rare old volumes is a passion for some. One noted collector, John Hajicek, has spent a third of his lifetime collecting these rarities. He describes the process has being his passion, and believes that he is socially and fiscally responsible to do so. He has collected over 50,000 Latter Day Saint books and pieces, to date. Some non-believers are concerned with following the official position of the Latter Day Saint Church over time. Some were passages relating to church doctrine and others were minor spelling mistakes or grammar corrections.

As the book is widely available, many who are interested may certainly look over what it has to say.

Prison Literature And The People Who Supply It

There has been much said about prison literature over the years. There are also many people who are both proponents and opponents to it. It can sometimes be surprising to others that no matter what a person has done or who they are that another person would be objected to them reading or trying to better themselves.
People who commit crimes deserve to be punished. People who commit truly vicious crimes deserve to be put in jail and kept away from the rest of society, sure. The problem is that sadly our justice system is not the most perfect system in the world and occasionally people who do not deserve it get sent to prison. When this happens it can sometimes take an army to get them released.
One of the most controversial subjects that is up for debate is the reading of legal material. There are some, mainly the victims or relatives of victims of some of the inmates that feel they should not be allowed to read up or research and learn about the laws that they broke. The main reason for this is because they feel they will try and use it to their advantage.
While it is usually extremely unlikely, there is concern that some of the more intelligent inmates might use these law books to gin the upper hand on the legal system and try to find a loop hole of sorts to get themselves a shorter term. Or worse yet, get themselves out of jail entirely. This being the case some people are against them reading such books.
Of course the other side of the argument fights for the civil rights of inmates. These people claim that no matter what, they are paying for their crime and they should have the right to read whatever is given to them. In such cases law books are found to be appropriate because everybody should have the chance to know why they are incarcerated according to the law.
So the books that the library is filled with come from donations for the most part and they claim that they cannot turn down the donations because that would be foolish. If law books are donated they should be kept in the library and the inmates should be allowed to check them out and read them.
When murderer on death row is allowed to read legal books that detail court cases, there is a certain feeling amongst some people that they can use that information to delay their punishment. The truth is that nothing can delay such a punishment when they are just waiting to die and no amount of reading can help.

There is one leading televangelist who has undergone some changes in his beliefs. Once connected to Jerry Falwell and his ministry, he has softened his stance against the Catholic church and their spiritual leader. He currently praises that institution. He expresses approval of the Pope. Due to his new attitude, some segment of the fundamentalist population has labeled him jack van impe false prophet.
Unlike the opinions he previously expressed, he now applauds the dictates of the Catholic church. He made a statement that the Pope gave him new direction. Some people understand this to be placing the Pope above Jesus Christ and his dictates. However, it is simply that he views the Pope in a reverential way.
The Christian broadcasting network recognizes the growing disagreement between themselves and Van Impe. Although they had a twenty year business relationship, he is not going to work with them any more. His money will be spent on broadcasting from new venues. He refuses to have constraints placed on what he says on the air.
Not many fundamentalist Christians are in favor of liaising with Muslims to find common interests and promote peace. This subject created a dispute between Van Impe and the station he used for twenty years. He criticized their choices of what programs to offer. He criticized the idea of adding Islamic beliefs to any Christian organizations. It is predicted that the world will end up with one government and one religion.
The new ambiguous opinions angered many people when he voiced them on air. People clearly remember his stand against Catholics and now he was praising the Pope. He also accepts the concept of Chrislam, which is a movement that intends to unite Christianity and Islam. It is not a popular concept among many people.
Jimmy Kimmel once did a skit about Van Impe on his nighttime talk show. He showed the preacher claiming that computer was a word that added up to 666 numerically. Then he talked about computers being faulty. Finally, he was depicted giving direction to the public on how to download content from his website. The audience was very amused by this skit.
After growing up in Michigan, Jack graduated from high school in 1948. He attended classes at Detroit Bible College. He worked while a student by organizing concerts and giving speeches to other students. In 1952 he graduated from college. He started working as a preacher immediately. He is noted for memorizing 14,000 bible verses. To this day he can recite them all.
He has traveled all over the country to preach the gospel truth as he sees it. From strict adherence to Baptist fundamentalism to his currently liberal attitude towards Catholicism, the Pope and Islam is a radical change. He went from preaching against them to promoting them as he does today.

There are a number of ancient sources that provide information about the life, ministry and death of Christ. Not all of these sources are of equal value but there is sufficient evidence of the historical Jesus revealed for the conclusion to be drawn that he did in fact exist, was crucified and his followers spread his teachings after his death.

He referred to Jesus as a virtuous and wise man, talks about his crucifixion and mentions the report by his disciples that he appeared to them after he was resurrected. There are those who feel that his exact words may have been added to by Christians.
The Roman historian Tacitus referred to Christ and the fact that Pontius Pilate ordered his execution. He talks about the existence of early Christians. It is believed by some scholars that Tacitus may have gained his information about Christ from official records, perhaps from actual reports written by Pilate. Scholars generally feel his reference is genuine and of historical value.
Pliny the Younger, a governor in Asia Minor, was perplexed about how to handle the Christians and wrote to Emperor Trajan to ask whether he was going about their interrogation and execution in the right manner. He writes an account of early Christian worship and states that Christianity attracted people from all spheres of society. His purpose was to reclaim them from this contagious superstition.
The Talmud, a Jewish source, does not embrace Christ as a deity and would have had no reason to sanction his existence. However, it contains references to Jesus and his disciples. It refers to the fact that he was hanged and also mentions his disciples going before judges.
Lucian, a Greek Satirist, wrote criticizing Christians for being gullible but revealed in the course of his criticism that Christ introduced new teachings in Palestine, was crucified for them and that he taught his followers such doctrines as the need for conversion, importance of faith and the brotherhood of all believers. He says that they believed in their own immortality and scorned death.
Gnostic sources affirm that Christ became flesh, taking on a human body. They say that he spoke of himself as the son of man and the son of God. The Gnostic sources are somewhat questionable because of their theological character and when they were written. However, both Pliny and Lucian affirmed that Christians believed in the deity of Christ.

We have now seen at least two human beings that talked with God. A case may be made for Enoch also being in this company as he walked with God for 300 years; Enoch did not die because the Lord took him away. God talked to Abraham and even appeared to him in the form of the Angel of the Lord.

A family in South Carolina were having very difficult times and it seemed as though they were about to lose their farm.
