The Old Covenant Vs New Covenant Way Of Salvation

By Kelsey Benson

God knew that man was to do against the commandment that He gave him. As it was stated in the law anybody who sins who was to be damned eternally. When man sinned he did not face the exact penalty as stipulated instead God provided a method of escaping. He provided two agreements that were a method of salvation from sin. The two are the initial and last way of salvation which have confused people. The old covenant vs new covenant is supposed to be distinguished clearly for people to know the correct mode of salvation.

The old agreement was made by God to the Jews, that man could save himself or herself by good works in observance to the law. In the other one it is different, God made an agreement that He would save the whole human race through His son Jesus Christ. As the name suggests the first now is obsolete because the new one is in place.

It was when the Jews were on their journey from Egypt when God gave them His commandments. The agreement explained vividly what they were supposed to do and not do. The Israelites, after receiving the laws promised to do as it was stipulated. Failure to follow the commandments it could result to death.

God had made this agreement knowing that the Israelites could not meet its demands. The sole purpose of this was to make people to be aware that on their own performance by keeping the law they could not redeem themselves. Due to the fact that they could not save themselves by keeping the law under the initial way, another alternative was to be provided. The alternative one provided was the new covenant where mankind would be saved by a promise of God in His son Jesus.

There has been a misunderstanding of which method should be followed for redemption of people. Some people cherish the obsolete mode which leads to condemnation. The two modes of gaining redemption has been one of the hottest theological issues of concern. People have not yet known which one they should follow to have redemption.

God wanted to bring mankind into attention that they would not save themselves however much they would try. The Jews tried their best but in vain. Due to their failure they were in great need of another savior apart from the law. Despite the effort of God to make them aware of the second some people were blind and could not see this.

Under the second and last agreement there were no laws that were to be kept for people to be saved but God promised to give them desires that are in harmony with the laws of God. Such desires are portrayed in the acts of people. God asked people to only believe in His Son for them to get salvation. It was different from the first as people would only focus on God and in the process they would change without adding any effort.

This understanding of two agreements requires that one be meditating upon God for the clear distinction to come out clearly. The old covenant vs new covenant (http://www.churchofgodcolumbiana.com/what-iswas-the-old-covenant.html) manner of escaping death has brought confusion. This will make people to be damned as they have neglected the free gift of God by entertaining the old covenant.
