Faith And Worship Are Key To The Successful Christian Life

By Julio Douthit

Christians recognize faith and worship as words they hear often, but truly understanding theses concepts and regularly exercising them are vital for anyone who wants to know God. Without them, there is no real relationship with the creator. And, after all, that is what it is all about.

First of all, faith is necessary to even believe in God. The Bible defines this state of heart and mind as 'belief in things unseen'. God asks us to come to Him, to find his attributes in His creation, and to seek to know Him through His word. He is not visible, but He wants to reveal Himself to His children.

Examples of the faithful include Noah, who labored for one hundred years to build a boat at a time when the world had not yet seen rain. Abraham obeyed God's command to leave his home and later to offer up the only child of his marriage to Sarah. David believed enough in God's protection to fight bears and lions while protecting his father's sheep, to face the giant Goliath, and to refuse to use his own efforts to gain the kingdom of Israel.

Biblical accounts of faithful living describe how God's people faced huge armies, lion's dens, fiery furnaces, prison, and even martyrdom without faltering. This kind of trust and obedience shows a depth of belief that can only be explained by deep commitment to a living deity. It is also rewarding for those who reach this level of understanding.

Faith needs to be exercised to be real. Although the Christian life is not built on works, it is shown by them. One of the ways we communicate our foundational belief in God is through praise and thanksgiving, which together with obedience make up worship. The Psalms of the Bible show us how to praise the Lord, and we are instructed to sing psalms as well as new songs to tell God of our love.

Missionary training should include in-depth study of how worship naturally follows belief in God. Being able to communicate the joy that Christian life holds is vital. The Holy Spirit teaches us to praise our creator, redeemer, and giver of eternal life. The Bible tells us that God inhabits our praises, and it also promises that when two or more of us gather together in prayer, He is there with us.

Faith and worship truly go together. If we have one, we will give the other. As we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we enter into communication with God. Learn more about Him and feel your belief in Him grow.
