Daniel in the Lions ' Den

By Dwight Keller

How often as children we excited to think of the brave courage of Daniel as he was decreased into the lions ' den. It looked that death was inevitable and in moments he would be torn limb from limb by those aggressive beasts. He should have not ever been there and the king who authorised the casting of Daniel into the lions ' den, himself could not sleep that night; his conscience was disturbed as he knew that devoted Daniel should haven't ever been so dealt with. King Darius was well informed about the famous history of this major man who had counselled stalwart monarchs such as Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. He had heard about his knowledge and his capability to translate dreams, and his exploits were well documented.

Order the amazing story of Daniel in the lions den!

Due to his faithfulness to God and his fervent desire to please God in the alien culture of Babylon, the presidents and princes, who envied him and resented his devotion to the God of his pops, collaborated to have him punished for the blatant practice of his religion in Babylon. They made a decision that if any man made petition of any person or god other than king Darius for 30 days, he would be cast into the den of lions. Their cunning approach to the king and hypocritical flattery persuaded the king to make their suggestion an irrevocable decree and everything was now in place , whereby they could ensnare Daniel.

While passing his home one day, as they expected, they heard Daniel praying as he was in the custom of doing, with his windows open, in order that they could hear every word. No time was lost; their opportunity had come and they hurried to inform the king of Daniel's violation of the new decree. Faced with this information, the king had no option but to implement the law he had rubber-stamped and Daniel was detained and thrown into the lions ' den.

It was evident that Darius had misgivings as to his actions, as, just before seeing Daniel thrown into the den, the king expounded, "Thy God whom thou servest continually, He's going to deliver thee." That was small comfort to Darius, who did not know God as Daniel did and he retired to spend a sleep-deprived night. Tumbling and turning upon his bed, he eventually arose, early the subsequent morning and hurried to the lions ' den.

He was concerned to find out Daniel's destiny and was not a little stunned, and grateful, when he found out that Daniel was unscratched; God having protected him from injury of any type. God had as always rewarded faithfulness to Him and in minutes Daniel was released from the den while the men who had charged him were thrown into the lions, to be devoured by them.
