Cords of attachment are a very subtle, yet very real, energetic connections that are established between two people. These connections can also exist between people and non-physical entities, such as a higher power, memories or powerful ideas. Energy cording can occur on a conscious level, but more commonly happens on a subconscious level, as many people are not aware of it's occurrence. Regardless of the source or intent, there are symptoms associated with energetic attachments.
Unusually vivid dreams are often a symptom of energy cording. The same is true of frequently recurring dreams. Recurring dreams are often a sign of a remaining attachment between the dreamer and a person of significant influence in the past, such as an old lover. Extraordinarily vivid dreams, or elements of a dream, are often trying to make the dreamer aware of a new attachment that has been formed.
Distracting thoughts can be a symptom of energy cording. This is true of a single thought that speaks to us very clearly and powerfully. Recurring thoughts or "daydreaming" about a certain subject can also be a sign that the subconscious mind is attempting to make an energetic connection known to the conscious mind so that it can be acknowledged from that perspective.
Our habits are often a sign of an energetic connection between ourselves and influential person or significant life event. For example, an extremely motivated person may be subconsciously trying to overcome an attachment to a parent with a history of negativity or failure. Similarly, a person with hoarding issues may have an enduring attachment to a powerful experience or memory of loss.
Energetic connections derived of jealousy are unfortunately a common occurrence in many love relationships. These type of possessive energy cording can also take place in other types of relationships, such as those between family members, friends, or even strangers. This type of energetic connection manifests in feelings of insecurity and inadequacy on the part of the person to which the cord has been attached. Nothing positive comes of this occurrence, and every effort should be made to identify and disconnect the cord.
The cord connection between a young child and a parent is a very natural and healthy occurrence, provided that the cord is cut at the appropriate time. The perceived "clinginess" of a child to the parent is the obvious indicator of this connection. While this type of cording serves an important purpose in the beginning, failure to sever the connection can result in the inhibition of the child's spiritual growth and development of free will.
Addictions are a powerful symptom of energetic cording. Addictions can arise as a result of a person's energetic connections to a traumatic experience, but also out of an attachment to the source or behavior itself. Identifying the emotional connection associated with the addiction is often the key to overcoming it.
