A group of singers who perform together are capable of producing church choral music which often takes place in theaters, concert halls and churches. Other term that are used to identify these groups include the title of choir, which frequently is applied to groups that are affiliated with a church, which is the location of the majority of their performances. Chorus is the title that is sometimes given to singing groups who conduct their performances at location other than churches.
The church choral music that is used by these specific groups is composed and arranged in special ways using details to fit these groups performances. We must clarify that the word choir can be applied not only to singers, but also an ensemble of musical instruments. A piece of music can be written in a poly-choral composition which represents a style where performers of an ensemble can be split up to perform individually, alternately or together. This type of music is composed as a single work contains distinct choirs of voices or instruments that are variously set in combination or opposition.
Ensembles that perform church choir music generally include more than one singer per part, whereas sometimes these styles of works feature a quartet of soloists that perform the musical piece. This type of musical arrangements are created by some very talented composers and arrangers who put together some very beautifully sounding composition featuring assorted blends and mixtures of music that are enjoyed by listeners.
The four very different, but equally important voices of soprano, alto, tenor and bass were used by composers in Europe to sing the Christmas choral music that they wrote. A combination of different voices is also used in the instrumental choirs for example the saxophone choir that uses a soprano sax, alto sax, tenor sax and bass saxophone for their ensemble. One of the most imperative musical forms during the Renaissance period was the Latin Mass that was written into choral format during that time period.
There are various types of church choral music that can be further identified as a Capella, anthem, cantata, motet and oratorio. A Capella is a name that means in the manner of the chapel and refers to singing without any musical accompaniment involved. A choral or vocal composition that contains a political or religious lyric is known as an anthem. The Italian word can tare means to sing, which is where the type Cantata was derived. Musical pieces that were meant to be sung were formerly identified as this type. The style of music that is referred to as oratorio applied to compositions with narrative text that is established on biblical stories or scripture.
