Old Covenant Vs New Covenant

By Kelsey Martin

A covenant is what you call an agreement or a promise made between two people or between two parties. This can come with a promise that once the agreement will be followed the person who kept is part of the agreement would get something back in return. In the Bible, there are already two covenants that were formed between man and God. These covenants since then has sparked discussions like old covenant vs new covenant.

There are many people all over the world who are still confused as to how these covenants differ from each other. One of the ways that you can differentiate this is by simply looking at the date time or where it took effect. Judging by their names, the old one occurred before Jesus died and resurrected. The new one started right after the time of Jesus death, burial, and His resurrection.

There are also significant figures and terms that help determine the differences that lie between these covenants. For the old, you only need to think about the Old testament, the Mosaic Law, and Moses himself. For its counterpart, you can associate with the apostles of Jesus Christ and the New Testament.

These two covenants are also written in two separate ways. The older one is the one that as set in stone and is also sometimes referred to as written in ink. You can relate this the two tablets and the Ten Commandments. The other agreement was done in spirit and is written on man's heart and mind instead of any material thing.

These covenants can also be differentiated based on who are the people who acted as its ministers. For example, the person who was considered as the minister during the time of the Mosaic Law is Moses. After this, it was already the apostles that followed the teachings of Jesus that became the ministers.

If you would study these agreements closely, you will notice that there is quite a big difference on what these two are all about. When the older agreement was made, the laws usually lead to death and severe punishments. The other one is not concerned about punishments because it is focused on leading people to righteousness.

The older laws are also closely associated with condemnation, death, and punishment. These are the type where there are grave punishments when any of the laws will be broken. When you will talk about the new agreement, it is more on helping people to live a life that is according to how God wants so they will have a chance to redemption.

One more thing that you have to consider is which of these covenants have become more glorified. The older one has ended right after the time when Jesus has completed His mission. The one that followed after this is still continuing to shine.

Old covenant vs new covenant (http://www.churchofgodcolumbiana.com/what-iswas-the-old-covenant.html) should not lead to confusion. It is also important for one to know the importance of these two covenants. It is when people understand that they will be more appreciative of God's love and the way that He does the things he do.
